Acorns have loved learning all about the planets this week with a visit from the mobile planetarium. They learned all about the atmosphere on different planets, as well as what the different planets are made of. We have also been looking at money and paying for our ticket to get into the planetarium. Some children even made amounts using different coins up to 10 and 20p!
Firstly we discussed the development of babies and how they change. This is mainly that they grow physically (height, weight, shape) but also that they grow emotionally (feelings) and psychologically (thoughts).
For homework we were asked to find out how tall we were and how much we weighed. There were some interesting results compared to now and with each other as well as thinking about both height and weight
Finally, we felt how heavy the average baby weighed and what it might have been like carrying that child.
This week was all about space, science and experimenting in Acorns. We made our own rockets and not only did we get to work with the older children in Year 3 making plastic out of milk, we also got to make a rainbow on a plate! Later on in the week, we had a science treasure hunt and made an ‘exploding rocket’ with cola and mints. The children have thoroughly enjoyed all of the experiments this week!
Today we did a treasure hunt. We had to answer clues which were all about science and make predictions about what would happen. It was lots of fun.
Cherry class have enjoyed science week. We learnt about electrical circuits with year 4. The we experimented with making and creating bubbles. We continued to learn about plants and planted cress. We set up an investigation to observe how well the cress will grow and are continuing to monitor our plants. Today we have been on a science treasure hunt! We had to work together to find and answer all the clues, which then spelt out a teachers name (connected to science!). Such a great week and still Friday to go!
This afternoon the children in Pips made moon rocks using bicarbonate of soda and food colouring. They then dripped vinegar on them using pipettes and were amazed at the bubbling, fizzing ‘rocks’.
This week we have looked at where we live on planet Earth using Google Earth. We have put the planets in order of size using different sized balls and we have made a moon surface and created craters by dropping stones onto the moon surface. Today some of us made aliens using balloons with tails to see where they went when we let go of them.
